The Buildings of the technical Museum Frohnauer Hammer are important cultural landmarks and precious period witnesses of the proto-industrial development in Europe that reach far beyond the region. Our design concept recognizes the existing buildings as a thematically and spatially distinctive ensemble. The new museum extends and complements the family of buildings integrating through its materiality, massing and careful urban placement. In encapsulating the central space in-between the buildings it creates a new center. Our design respects the prevalent architectural typology of the region. At the same time, it can clearly be read as a new element. The building accomplishes to create a new identity and a new urban center for the ensemble. It transforms the place of the Technical Museum Frohnauer Hammer into a public destination that is adequately taking account for its stature as a future UNESCO World Heritage Site within the Ore Mountain Mining Region.
