On December 18th, the international workshop week “Gestalten 2.0” at the department for foundations of architectural design Prof. Mark Mückenheim, Technical University Munich, school of architecture ended, with a public presentation at the Vorhoelzer Forum Arcisstr. 21 / 80333 München. The workshop was run by Tobias Klein, Dietmar Koering, Denis Vlieghe, and Peter Dell’Uva, guest teachers from the Architectural Association London, the Ecole speciale de Architecture Paris and the University of Tokyo which were invited to the TU Munich by Mark Mückenheim. The students worked on analysing and transforming a series of existing churches into 3d models exploring the boundaries of representation. The course aimed to stimulate a debate around ornaments, ecclesial patterns, sublime tectonics within the complexity of the classical southern church architecture and their translation and manufacturing into a contemporary exuberance. The outcome of the class consisted in very beautiful, rich and detailed models. The chair for design methodology and representation is planning to organize a travelling exhibition of the works in 2011.
