Sandra Kauls

We mourn the loss of our friend and partner Sandra Kauls 25.10.1971 – 12.11.2007 our very close friend, partner, and important collaborator on many of our projects died last night in her apartment in Berlin. Sandra studied architecture in Duesseldorf, Muncie Indiana and New York. She graduated at Parsons School of Design, New York with a Masters degree in 1999. She received a Fulbright scholarship in 1996 and the MACEF design award in 2004. Sandra was extremely inventive, creative and a brilliant conceptual thinker. She was an enthusiastic sailor, sailing boats on Wannsee Lake. Among a lot of other things, she liked running, sketching and oil painting. She also was probably the best rummy card player on the planet. She took every day as it unfolded and even in the stressful live as an architect she was able to find beauty in little things. She particularly liked flowers and animals especially birds that she gave funny little names, when nobody was able to determine the exact species. Sandra’s death is a tremendous loss, she was a very important inspiration for us and with her beautiful personality, energy and love that filled our souls, she will forever leave an irreplaceable hole in our hearts. We are so thankful that we had the privilege to know her – the memory of her will always be with us, we will never forget her.
